Fear

Recently I read a quote by Glennon Doyle Melton  and it read “If you can’t beat fear, just do it scared”. This quote is fairly accurate. There are many things that fear keeps you from doing, and rightfully so. There are also many other fears that keep you from doing thrilling activities. Take for acrophobia for example. Acrophobia is the fear of heights and it both protects and limits people who have it. It protects in the sense of telling the brain to go nowhere near that ledge or cliff but it can also keep you from climbing or cliff jumping or skydiving. However with repetition, you can start to get over the limiting part of the fear and keep the protecting part. That goes a lot with kung fu. There are many things that people don’t like or are scared to do, like a flying spinning back kick. But with repetition both skill and awareness of your body will come, and if your scared to do the flying spinning back kick, just do it scared.

Vacation

This week has been a pretty chill week. We spent 3 days at the lake and just got back from 4 days at dinosaur provincial park. I didn’t get a crazy amount of physical training but I still got some in. But just because I didn’t get a lot of physical training done doesn’t mean I couldn’t work on my mental training. Lots of my theory and memorizing has come quite some way on the last couple of weeks and I don’t plan to stop that. Now with a week and a half before school starts I have that much time to fully dedicate myself towards my training. However with school starting up I don’t plan on dropping my training schedule. With the first black belt test date out I really have to buckle down and train train train

Mistake

Recently I realized that whenever we do forms or anything regarding training, when we make a mistake we smile, shake it off then try again. Then it occurred to me that not everyone reacts to mistakes that way. That’s one of the many positive things that kung fu has to offer. It keeps us both mentally aware of our body and teaches us how to react to mistakes the proper way. Mistakes are common and if we don’t remain calm those mistakes will start to turn into failures. We all just have to keep our chin up, smile and only compare ourselves to you yesterday.

School

School is coming up here soon and just like everything else, it’s going to be a lot different because of covid. One of the major changes is the class schedule. Instead of having 2 semesters with 4 classes we will have 4 semesters with two classes. Sure it will get tiring having to do the same subject for three hours at a time but I’m looking forward to it. I find it is easier to maintain my numbers and training schedule while school is running. It’s probably due to the fact that everyday I’m waking up, riding the bus, learning, coming home, all at the same time so by throwing some repetitions here and there will make quick and easy work of staying on track.

My week

this week has gone by pretty quick. It’s weeks like this that we have to buckle down and get our training done because one day can easily sleep into 3 or 4. I made sure I kept myself mental aware of getting at least an hour of training in each day and just like the week, the hours went by quickly. However with those hours of training I have boosted my numbers greatly and each and every time I felt sore, but that good sore you feel after an intense work out. Throughout the rest of the year I am determined to keep practicing an hour a day every day, hopefully, improving in every way possible.
