To continue from my last blog, I think it is important to provide some clarity and expand on the concept. Over this past year, I have learned a lot about my body. As one strives beyond mediocrity it is important to note that mastery never takes a day off. As a wise Sifu once told me, mastery and mediocrity are like the yin and the yang. If you start to give ease to mastery mediocrity fills its place. But if you provide more room for mastery, it is mediocrity that will give way. It is important to listen to your body, if it is sore, pay attention to avoid injury. The more you push yourself when you are sore the more prone to injury you become. However it is important for somebody to find that fine line between preventing an injury and opening the door to mediocrity.
I am an artist
I am an artist. With the new year of I Ho Chuan rolling in, everyone is starting their own journey with a new and unique weapon. For me, this is the staff. As I was creating said form, it occurred to me that every form we do, every application we practice, it’s all art. It’s about being abstract yet simple. Challenging yet easy. Each and everyone one of us has our own unique way of doing a form or an application. There is no right or wrong way to create art. Art is art just as kung fu is kung fu. The more you practice and stay dedicated, the greater of an artist you will become. We are all artists on our own journey to create a masterpiece.
