My hiking trip
For those of you that didn’t know, our family, except for dad, went hiking in the mountains. We have hiked on different trails but never this one. I was both exited and worried about this new trail but you never will know if you like or don’t like something unless you try it. It was a 14.4km hike on way through trees and rocks and all of that.
Once we got there it was late in the morning early after noon. There was warning of the trails being flooded but we still went anyway. Within the first 100m we ran into the first part of the trail that was flooded. There was some rocks that we were able to get across with. Sadly we didn’t see the actual path before we crossed the rocks. When we crossed the rocks there was a big stream to the left of us. We were walking through the trees trying to find the path, after about 1km of walking though trees we saw other people walking on the other side of the stream, which was the right side, and asked them how they got across. It turns out that instead of crossing the rocks at the beginning, we walk across fallen logs on the other side.
After the whole mess was dealt with we were on our way up the mountain. At the time we didn’t know that that was the only flooded part of the trail. About 5km in we stopped for a brake and a beautiful lake at at some snacks. We stayed there for about 30 minutes before we were up and moving again. Now about 11km in, it started raining and thunder storming. We had to put down the backpacks, pull out a tarp, and find shelter and let the thunder pass. At that time I thought there was about 1km left so I was ready to get up and go whenever.
Once the thunderstorm passed we asked mom how much longer to the campsite and she said about 3-4km and I died a little bit on the inside. We then passed some hikers on their way down and asked how much longer and they said 2km. I will say this now and it wasn’t 2km, it was about 3km. After all of that we set up camp and had supper. Mostly everything was wet so there was nothing to do so I went to bed at 5:30P.M.
In the morning we had to pack up quick because it was still raining and cold. Once we were all packed up we were on our way down the hill. About 3km in a tripped and fell into the bush. It got me very wet and cold for the rest of the way down. About 5km in everybody was soaked and cold. Our hand we freezing from the rain and our shoes made it feel like we were stepping in puddles. At this point we all just wanted to get down and warm up on the vehicle. Once we got to the vehicle I just threw everything in it and started to warm up. My hands were completely purple and I couldn’t feel them.
Finally we were down the hill and warm and ready to get out of that place. We headed into jasper and went to the pool there’s for a little bit. When we came in we were all shivering and the lady working the front desk asked if we were okay. It was really funny for all of us. Once done at the pool we started making our way home and when’s we got home, I went straight to bed on a nice warm bed.
